Mojanara, April 2005

Thelma had a great day out in Mojanara which is just south of Almeria. About an hour and half on the coach in beautiful spring sunshine was a nice way to start the day. Lots of lacemakers and several suppliers meant that a good day was in store. The town square was shut to traffic for the day as the lacemakers took over. Tables were laid out, chairs were fought over and prime spots in the shade were snapped up quickly. In Spain, who needs a table to make lace when there is a palm tree handy! A supply of English bobbins were quickly snapped up by Spanish ladies and lots of patterns exhanged hands. We've learnt now to take copies of whatever we're doing to give away. Many new patterns were passed to us by the Spanish ladies and what fun we've had trying to work out how to do them. There was a parade of lacemakers all showing off what they had made, and what wonderful work it was too. Lovely to see lots of young lacemakers amongst them Lunch was served, goodie bags were handed out and was followed by wonderful entertainment in the form of a group of Flemenco dancers. All in all a wonderful day out!
