Bauble Jacket

Perk up your old Christmas decorations or embellish some cheap new ones.
The pattern has been designed to fit a 6cm-diameter bauble. A 2½-inch diameter bauble is a similar size. The smaller jump ring is suitable for the satin covered baubles that have a ribbon inserted into the bauble as a hanger. If you cannot find jump rings of a suitable size a double ring of spangling wire will work or else work a plait, use 2 pairs from the edge, around the line marking the ring position and then sew back into the beginning of the plait.
Sew your pairs over the ring in the order shown on the diagram. Take care to make sure that you use the correct pinholes, as where the braid is narrower the pinholes are close together. Follow the diagram for the path of the threads.
At the end of the braid tie all the pairs together in a bundle as at the base of a bookmark. Leave enough thread after tying to form part of the tassel. Start the next braid in same way but make sewings to the finished braid if there are shared pinholes. Once all the braids are completed fit the jacket over the neck of the bauble and use a needle and thread to stitch the braids together at the bottom. Then use the same thread as the workers to wrap around the base of the braids to create a tassel.
